Dallas Ft. Worth Hunting Retriever Association
Welcome to the Dallas / Ft. Worth Hunting Retriever Association Web Site.
The DFWHRA is a hunting retriever club based in the Dallas / Fort Worth area and dedicated to quality training of our hunting retrievers.
DFWHRA was created in 1989 by a group of avid hunters and retriever enthusiasts dedicated to preserving the hunting instincts of our retriever breeds. Starting with only a handful of members, our club is now one of the largest active and organized retriever organizations in North Texas.
Our club members are individuals and families that live throughout the DFW area. Most of us hunt with our dogs every chance we get and some of us don’t hunt with our dogs, but love to watch and train our dogs to do what they were bred for which is hunting and retrieving. Our club is about training and perpetuating the hunting/retrieving instinct in our retrievers. No matter if your interest is hunting, field test qualifications or obedience, our members with combined years of experience, will assist you in accomplishing your goals through proper retriever training.
Once a month the club membership meets at a convenient location to discuss business, training and upcoming events. You can come early to enjoy dinner of just browse through the club library that is filled with training videos and books, all of which is available to members. After the business meeting, it is common to be entertained by selected speaking guests who reveal hunting tips, K-9 emergency medical tips, proper firearm handling, law enforcement as it relates to hunting, tips from professional duck callers, and professional dog trainers to help you trouble shoot your training program.
Like most professional organizations, we provide a monthly newsletter that contains information about club training days, where they are located and what will be covered. In addition, special events such as club sporting clay shoots, cookouts, organized hunts, training clinics, fun tests, and sanctioned field tests are all part of a year’s activities.
The DFWHRA is a Proudly affiliated with the National Field Retriever Association (NFRA) whose mission is to maintain, promote and advance the field/hunting skills of the retriever breeds. Our club was the first to join the new national organization that supports a venue to test and evaluate your retriever’s ability in the field. Our club normally hosts two sanctioned field tests each year that attracts participants not only from Texas but also Louisiana, Oklahoma and Colorado to our great events.
I would like to personally invite you to become a part of our growing retriever community at the Dallas / Fort Worth Hunting Retriever Association and share the experience!!!
Good Training!
